Welcome to The Listening SLP!
My name is Sydney and I'm a speech-language pathologist. Over the past two years, I have created over 300 images filled with information for professionals and parents on social media. I have loved building and creating @thelisteningslp. My personal mission is to listen, learn, and advocate alongside individuals I work with!
Listen. For any relationship to be successful, each party HAS to listen. It is easy to fall into the trap of listening to respond or give an answer. Taking time to actively listen requires work, but leads to rich relationships.
Learn. Graduate school teaches professionals about the disorders and treatment, BUT people teach you about their lived experience. To be an effective therapist, you have to VALUE the lives experiences of your patients and their families.
Advocate. Advocacy is key. My goal is to always help parents become phenomenal advocates for their children even if that means challenging my views and clinical opinions.
Recently, I opened my own private practice with an emphasis on working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adults and those with reading disorders/ dyslexia. The goal of my practice is to meet individuals where they are in the process.
