Fun Activities for Speech Therapy After Winter Break

Welcome back! After a long winter break, it’s time to return to work and make speech therapy fun for our students. Here are some engaging activities you can use in your sessions, along with great resources from Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT) to help you.

1. Winter-Themed Story Time

Reading winter-themed books can spark interest and conversation. Choose a book that has rich illustrations and simple text. After reading, ask questions about the story to encourage discussion.

2. Snowball Fight with Speech Sounds

Create "snowballs" using white paper or cotton balls. Write different speech sounds or words on each snowball. Students can take turns picking a snowball and saying the word or sound correctly before throwing it back!

3. Winter Bingo

Bingo is always a hit! Create bingo cards with winter-themed pictures or words. As you call out the words, students can practice saying them before marking their cards.

4. Ice Fishing for Vocabulary

Set up a small container with blue water beads to represent a pond. Add fish cutouts with different vocabulary words on them. Students can "fish" for words and practice saying them aloud when they catch a fish!

5. Create a Winter Craft

Arts and crafts can be a great way to practice language skills. Choose a simple winter craft students can make while discussing the steps involved. This promotes both fine motor skills and communication.

6. Winter Charades

Charades are a fun way to get students moving and using their words. Prepare a list of winter activities or items. Students can take turns acting them out while others guess what they are.
